WINTER AULD TAM GIN

Our seasonal exclusive Old Tom Gin produced in collaboration with Aberdeen Football Club

THE STORY

An exclusive collaboration with Aberdeen Football Club, The House of Botanicals Winter Auld Tam Gin is a festive bottling created in the botanical rich and lightly sweetened Old Tom style, a product we’ve long had an association to because of our adoration for the Martinez cocktail.

As long-term exponents of collaboration, and with Old Tom Gin’s inherent and historic links to London, the first element of production rightly takes place in the UK capital with a distillation of juniper berries, angelica root, orris root, coriander seed, cassia bark, almond, orange peel and lemon peel creating a truly outstanding dry gin in its own right.

This gin is then shipped to our dedicated production facility in the heart of Aberdeen and, again as a nod to early Old Tom bottles, macerated with delicate Moroccan saffron, end of season Scottish raspberries, Spanish orange peel, Brazilian black peppercorns and Chinese ginger root. To finish, and create the Old Tom style, it is lightly sweetened with a hint of refined sugar, less than 25g per litre, and bottled at 43% abv so as to highlight the pine-rich juniper, tart berry and warm spice contained within. To finish the gin is bottled at 43%.

The colour scheme used across the label is influenced by the black, gold, white and navy worn by the club when they were founded in 1903. The Coat of Arms branding is in homage to the Aberdeen and London City Coats of Arms, with the Black Panther additionally a reference to hip-hop which we listen to most days at the House of Botanicals, and obviously a doff of the cap to early Old Tom branding which would feature a Black Cat.

Tasting NOTES

Nose: Warm light orange. Spiced citrus and piney juniper dominates with a subtle underlying note of cracked black pepper and berries.

Taste: Juniper and pine continues to dominate alongside warm citrus, spicy ginger, vanilla, and a creamy mouthfeel, which leads into a tart raspberry finish with a crackling of pepper throughout.

Finish: Long and fragrant, lightly sweet, with the return of the cracked pepper and spice.

RECOMMENDED SERVE

Auld Winter Negroni

  • 45ml / 1.5oz House of Botanicals Winter Auld Tam Gin
  • 30ml / 1oz Campari
  • 15ml / 0.5oz Pedro Ximenez
  • 15ml / 0.5oz Cocchi Vermouth di Torino
  • 5ml Orange Curaçao

Add all ingredients to mixing glass, fill with cubed ice and stir for 15-20 seconds. Strain into an ice filled rocks glass and garnish with a slice of fresh orange
